inn at hillwatch
letters to marigold
A collection of short stories.
Marigold, a young maid at the inn, has her illusions of war shattered when she navigates a path through the inn as it comes alive with each new guest’s story, and in the process, reveals some truths about herself.
Lawrence has just found his way out of the war in the West. He arrives at the inn hoping to find a refuge. But did he go through the proper channels for the departure of his post or was it dereliction of duty?
Rhinebeck, a quiet resident of the inn who loves a good game of chess, could be called many things, a frontiersman, a drifter. But what he truly thinks of himself can only be revealed through an honest game of the king’s men, black versus white.
Chi-Chi comes from all the way across the world to stay at the inn. She finds comfort in her solitude, away from a home where she was forever dishonored by the actions of her late husband, the ronin.
Dr. Larroganza might be the most dangerous man in the world, trifling with otherworldly artifacts like they are his personal play things. He lives at the inn because he can’t go home. Not after what he did when he discovered the god in the glass.
Old man Castellan lives on the top floor of the inn. He rarely leaves. Stuck in an endless loop of hopelessness as the last innkeeper of Hillwatch, his story is the story of the inn itself. Unless Marigold and Lawrence can find a solution within the details of Castellan’s tale, the inn at Hillwatch will be lost once his time is up.
Skomin Denant has some grave news for the Innkeeper at Hillwatch, whoever that may be these days.
Orango Mallux has a curse he keeps away from everyone he can, especially his family. That’s why he wanders the road alone.
Montgomery Wesley V is more than he may appear to be and at the center of it is that mysterious tincture he keeps sipping on.
Madam Imogen Morgaine runs the House of Flesh right over the border to The West. She wields her power over the Oasis as gatekeeper with great purpose. Be careful entering her house.

In this video, I talk about my wife’s Thanksgiving tree, getting INN AT HILLWATCH: LETTERS TO MARIGOLD across the finish line and the unique opportunity that was created by including the first book and how it brings the whole narrative together in a more cohesive way.
I hope you enjoy!
